With ECOMER, the analytical econometer designed by MARINELEC to reduce a ships consumption and environmental impact, the eco makes sense; more economical and more ecological. To illustrate this, we have produced an animation “Motion Design” which we will present at the ITECHMER trade fair. ECOMER was created with the goal of enabling maritime professionals to cut down their fuel consumption and reduce polluting emissions, all whilst improving operating conditions. This system also aides the sector as a whole in meeting its commitments and complying with the IMO regulations such as the SEEMP, Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan, or the EEOI, Energy Efficiency Operational Index.
ECOMER and Fishing?
ECOMER was originally developed at the request of the DPMA, Direction des Pêches Maritimes et de l’Aquaculture, to help fishermen reduce their fuel consumption. ECOMER was first tested on fishing vessels; it was integrated into projects aiming to improve the energy efficiency of the boats and fishing equipment and reducing the enviromental impact of their activities. For example, ECOMER was the analytical tool used by the ENERSENNE project, whose goal was to measure the energy effeciency of the senne danoise. This project, supported by Ifremer, certified by the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique and co-financed by France Filière Pêche evaluated its consumption and proposed possible avenues for improvement. From fishing vessels of the future to the new sailing freighters, ECOMER has become an essential energy management tool for the development of sustainable maritime transport.
ECOMER how does it work ?
ECOMER collects and analyses consumption data in real time, item by item. There are several versions of ECOMER available to meet the different sizes and configurations of each boat. From the bridge, the captain can monitor and act immediately on certain energy consumers, thanks to the automatic control function. For example, it can adjust the engine speed or turn off unnecessary lighting or air conditioning etc. Other data such as wind strength or sea conditions will help navigation. The routing function will also indicate the most efficient and economical way to reach the desired port. The data analysis is transmitted via the cloud to armaments, making it possible to optimise equipment maintenance, for instance simply replacing a filter or cleaning the hull. It is also a valuable tool for validating larger investments like replacing an engine.
By adopting ECOMER, the seafarer will consume smarter and sail further!
